Spring Day-adventure with the Kiddos

Last weekend was a day from a dream weather-wise on PEI. The sun was out, the temperature was warm and the wind was not too much. It isn’t every weekend that I have a Saturday off, I do tend to host an open house or have a relocation client in town wanting to view houses. But this Saturday, I was off and we were ready to put the list of Spring To-Do’s back on the fridge, put off to another day, and go out exploring the Island with the kiddos. We didn’t know exactly where we would end up so we packed a picnic lunch, extra snacks and mittens and the bikes and set off.

First stop was Breadalbane - I had the listing at 3864 Dixon Road and we know the buyers so it was fun to drop in on the property and show them where our friends will be living in the not-too-soon future. From there, we popped over to the Island Trails Breadalbane trail and did a good jaunt on the trail.

Side note: We are working on getting the kids able to walk longer distances. I would say our goal is 5ish km without too much complaining from the kids for when we go to Cape Breton this summer.

We did a good hike around there and by the time we were finished, it was closing in on lunch time. So we popped into Breadalbane town and had a picnic at the park.

From the picnic lunch, we decided to head to the north shore. We were thinking of letting the kiddos bike along the walking path in Cavendish National Park. But we were drawn to walking along the beach, exploring what the ice of winter had deposited on the shore.

Things were pretty chilly along the coast, so we needed a pick-me-up and something to warm our bellies. One of my favourite places to get a latte when I’m on the road is from The Willow Bakery. They have 2 locations, Kensington and then seasonally in Stanley Bridge. So we headed off to Kensington to get some yummy treats and lattes and hot chocolate. I had the Lavender London Fog and it was amazing. Tyler had a regular latte and was definitely jealous of my choice. The kids were almost stunned into indecision with the variety of yummy treats to pick from. We tried the cinnamon rolls, one with cream cheese frosting and one with brown butter frosting, a chocolate drizzled oatmeal cookie, and more!

After our snack, we walked along the Rails for Trails in Kensington and the kiddos rode their bikes with us. They were a bit sad when the day was over, but this is only the first adventure of the season - can’t wait to see what our next one will bring!
